Cupping Therapy
Cupping uses suction at the skin and feels different from hands-on massage. At The Path to Wellness in Tulsa, a cupping appointment should begin with an explanation of the method, the areas to be treated, and the visible marks that may follow. Understanding those details helps you decide whether this approach fits your preferences and schedule.
Ask which kind of cupping is offered
Do not assume every service described as cupping uses the same equipment or process. Ask whether the appointment involves stationary cups, moving cups, or a combination with massage. Confirm whether heat is involved and whether the skin remains intact. The booking title alone is not enough to establish the exact method or your suitability for it.
Tell the practitioner about skin conditions, fragile skin, bruising, medicines that affect bleeding, and recent procedures. Explain any area you want avoided and whether you have reacted to cupping before. If you have an unexplained skin problem or a new injury, seek appropriate assessment before treating it as routine muscle tension.
During and after a session
Before starting, agree on the areas involved and ask what sensations to expect. Suction should not be treated as something you must endure at any strength. Report burning, sharp pain, dizziness, or discomfort immediately, and request adjustment or removal when needed. You can decline cupping and discuss a different bodywork option.
Temporary circular marks can occur. Plan around occasions where you may not want visible marks, and ask how to care for the area. A darker mark is not proof that more toxins were removed or that the session worked better. Explain the origin of marks to a healthcare professional if they assess your skin afterward. Seek advice for blistering, a spreading rash, or other unexpected changes.
What research says
The NCCIH cupping overview describes limited-quality evidence for pain relief and potential harms, including skin injury and infection. Cupping should not be advertised as a proven detoxification treatment or a cure for disease.
Choose follow-up appointments only after reviewing your response and any skin reaction. There is no universal course or requirement to keep producing marks. If the goal is managing a persistent problem, discuss how progress will be assessed and when another type of care is more appropriate. A treatment should add useful benefit rather than simply repeat because it appears dramatic.
Price and appointment length
The current booking menu lists Cupping at $170 for 90 minutes. Confirm what portion of the appointment involves cupping, whether massage is included, and which practitioner provides it. The listed appointment length does not mean cups remain on the skin for the full session. Ask about the complete service and total price before booking.
Cupping questions
Are marks necessary for success?
No. Their appearance should not be used to measure toxins or guarantee a therapeutic result.
Can I choose massage without cupping?
Ask the team to help you select a suitable massage appointment instead. Consent to one technique does not require accepting another.
Practitioner and booking details
Ask which massage professional is available and explain the type of appointment you want before selecting a time. Our practice director is Teresa Wilkinson, RN, Doctor of Oriental Medicine, as described on the About page; availability and professional roles vary by service. Confirm your therapist, appointment length, and full price in the booking menu.
Call 918-494-0082 or compare the massage therapy options before booking. We are at 6125 S. Sheridan Rd, Suite E, Tulsa. Tell the team about recent procedures, injuries, pregnancy, and any medical restrictions so you can discuss suitability first.
